About me
ITPro first, advocate second. I've spent my career on the operations side of infrastructure, and that's still the lens I bring to everything I write and present.
The short version
I'm a Principal Cloud Advocate at Microsoft, working on Azure infrastructure from my home base in Ottawa. I help ITPros make sense of what's changing in Azure networking, hybrid and sovereign cloud, identity, and Kubernetes, and what those changes mean for the runbooks they already own.
Every week I publish two newsletters on LinkedIn. AZ Update covers the generally available Azure releases that matter to operations teams, and Wired For Hybrid carries This Week in Azure Networking, a deeper look at networking and edge. I use an AI agent to help monitor the release feeds, but I review, fact-check and write every edition myself.
I also produce and host the ITOpsTalk show, where I talk with the engineers and product teams who build Azure infrastructure, and I write with my teammates on the ITOps Talk blog. My latest posts are on the Writing page.
I've spent more than 25 years across the whole operations and infrastructure lifecycle, and I speak to audiences from hands-on practitioners to management. Part of my job is carrying what I hear from ITPros back to the Azure product groups, so the feedback loop runs both ways.
Away from work I'm a husband, a father, a hockey fan and an unapologetic gadget enthusiast. I present in English or French; pick whichever suits your audience.
